IMS is the only Legal Professional Corporation in Japan that handles the outsourcing of visa application processing for the intake of foreigners, and carries out visa application procedures for international professors, researchers, exchange students and their family member(s) affiliated with The University of Tokyo. In addition to that, we also conduct United States visa application procedures as one of our main legal services.
As we enter the 21st century, we are seeing a greater wave of globalization. This new wave of globalization has intensified competitions among international societies, and consequently leading to an increase in the employment of foreigners and the dispatch of expatriate representatives overseas by Japanese enterprises, especially to the United States. However, amid the swift movements of highly-skilled and competent employees into various business arenas, there has been an increase in the number of people engaged in illegal residency/ overstay and illegal employment. In response to this, the screening processes have recently become more strictly enforced in both the Immigration Bureau of the Japanese Ministry of Justice and the United States Embassy.
For those foreigners who want to reside in Japan and those Japanese people who want to reside in the United States, various procedures in relation to residency must be conducted according to each country’s law. However, the legal procedures vary from country to country and they are usually difficult to comprehend. Usually, a coordinating staff in your company applies for various status of residency on behalf of the company’s prospective foreign employee(s). Given the fact that there is no problem with the personal character of the appointed foreign employee or the Japanese expatriate representative, a visa application can still be disapproved just because there is an insufficiency of application documents and verified evidence materials, and we have seen many cases like this so far.
