The Immigration Bureau’s qualification on “College Student” status is based on whether you have the school registration or not.
Classification by the opinion of Immigration Bureau as follows;
The school registration is issued to: “College Student”
The school registration is not issued to: “Cultural activities”

It is possible, though that there will be screening requirements.
You will need to re-submit all of the necessary documents along with re-application form. If you have a copy of the certificate that was already been issued, please attach that with your application. And if you recover the original certificate after you re-apply, it is necessary for you to notify and cancel your re-application. |

I have a multiple visa. Do I need to apply for the re-entry permission? |

Yes, you do need to apply. The Visa is a certificate that is guaranteeing you to receive landing examination needed to the entering Japan at the port of entry. Only after this landing examination your landing permit (permission stamp) will be issued.
By applying re-entry permission and obtaining this permit will allow you to re-enter to Japan during the duration of the issued landing permit. I need to you to remind you that there are a single and a multiple permit, as well as that there are single and a multiple Visa. When you leave Japan without re-entry permission, you will still be permitted to enter to Japan, if you have a multiple visa. But your residency status and alien registration card will be asked to return in at the port of embark and subjected for re-application upon re-entering Japan, if you do not apply for re-entry permission. |

I am expected to be graduated from the university (the graduate school) in Japan, and looking for employment in Japan after. Can I extend my period of stay as a student to look for the job? |

The foreign students who graduate from the university in Japan can apply and change of status of residence for job hunting purpose. The new status will be "Short-term Stay” and you can extend once and you can stay up to 180 days.
However, if you are a research student who has completed the research student course, and if you have withdrawal or drop out from the university (or graduate school) you cannot apply and there is no status change available for you.
Necessary documents are
1. Application for status change form
2. Recommendation letter from the university
3. Passport
4. Copy of Alien registration card, both sides
5. Graduate expectation certificate
6. Transcript
7. Copy of bankbook, all pages including front cover
8. Planning documentation (detail job hunting plans with scheduling)
Once you prepare these documents, apply to Student Inspection Department of the Immigration Bureau. If there is no discrepancy in the screening of documentation, the new permission will be issued on the day you apply. |

When I apply for the Certificate of Eligibility based on “Dependent”, the original marriage certificate and birth certificate are required by the Immigration Bureau.
These original documents in my country are only being issue once, can I get them back after screening and paper works were completed? |

The Immigration Bureau doesn't accept the application of “Dependent” without the original marriage and birth certificate. What you can do is to bring the originals and the copies upon application. At the Immigration Bureau, they will collate them and will return the originals to you at the time of application, if you have the copies.
But, please be aware that when ever possible Immigration Bureau would require you to submit an original document when ever you can. |

For the extension of period of stay and change of status of residence must be applied by applicants themselves. Your wife and son both should return before expiration and apply for the extension in person. Otherwise, you will need to re-apply for Certificate of Eligibility as their proxy. |

You can not extend resident status as “College Student” because of your remaining term of the university is too short. However you can apply for change of status of residence “Short-term stay”. You will be given maximum of 90 days to remain in Japan.

5. Graduation expectation certificate

8. Letter of reasoning on status change

I am a student from China. I lost my passport during my recent move. How do I regain my Chinese passport and status of residence in Japan? |

First you file police report, make sure you obtain “Loss certificate” with police filing number. And then report to Chinese embassy for your loss and apply for the re-issuance of your passport. At the Chinese embassy, you will be required to submit "Loss certificate" from the police. You will also need a copy of “Loss certificate” to regain your status in Japan. So make sure you will make copy of “Loss certificate”
You will need to find out from Chinese embassy for documentation requirements for the re-issuance of your passport.
When you receive new passport from your embassy, you will file Petition for “Transfer of Endorsement” at the Immigration Bureau. At this time you will need to submit the copy of "Loss certificate” if you do not have the copy of your certificate, filing number on your “Loss certificate” will be sufficient.

2. Copy of both sides of Alien registration card
3. Passport (new passport)
