Autumn is my absolute favorite time of the year. Although the autumnal equinox is later this month, the temperature has already started to drop from the summer highs. I’ve been wanting to go to an onsen for a while, but it’s just been too hot!
Luckily this past weekend was nice and cool, so I woke up early on Sunday morning to go to Oka-no-yu (丘の湯) at Yomiuriland, less than half an hour away from my apartment. It was raining when I got there, so I was surprised there were a lot of people who were going to the park itself!
One of my main reasons for going was the outdoor bath: I think it’s a habit from Sapporo—my friends and I often went to the onsen while it snowed outside—but I love soaking in hot water while the surrounding air is cold. The Sunday rain created little swirls of steam where it hit the water, and it was nice being able to relax like that.
After soaking for the better part of an hour, I went to the cafeteria to eat some lunch. The food was great, but I ate a bit too much. Do you know the phrase “your eyes are bigger than your stomach”? Compared to my stomach, I think my eyes must be mountains…
I’m really glad I was able to go as early in the morning as I did. After lunch, the bath started getting more and more crowded, so I think I timed it pretty well! Now that I know how to get there, perhaps I’ll visit more often.
