Japanese passport one of the most powerful in the world

This is Stephanie of IMS.

For the second year in a row, the Japanese passport is the strongest in the world, according to the annual Henley Passport Index. This passport index ranks countries’ passports based on how easy it is for their citizens to travel visa-free to different destinations. Currently, holders of a Japanese passport are able to visit 190 destinations visa-free, and only 36 destinations in the world require a visa for tourism. For comparison, the U.S. passport allows visa-free access to 185 destinations worldwide, but 41 destinations require visas.

This is a welcome change for Japanese citizens, whose passport was ranked 5th in global rankings for 2016 and 2017. Beginning in 2018, the Japanese passport shot up to 1st place, and now has the most travel freedom in the world.
