3 of Japan’s Airports Ranked in “The World’s Top 10 Airports of 2021”

Hello, this is Segawa of IMS Legal Professional Corporation.

“The World’s Top 10 Airports of 2021” was announced, and Tokyo Haneda International Airport was ranked 2nd place, 3 years in a row.  This ranking is based on an airport customer satisfaction survey conducted from August 2020 until July 2021, by Skytrax, a UK-based airline/ airport consultancy, featuring over 500 airports.

The following is the ranking and other award categories the airport has won;

  1. Hamad International Airport (Qatar)
  2. Tokyo Haneda International Airport (Japan)

“World’s Cleanest Airport” “World’s Best Domestic Airport” “World’s Best Airport PRM (Passengers with Remote Mobility) / Accessible Facilities”

  1. Singapore Changi Airport (Singapore)

“World’s Best Airport Staff”

  1. Incheon International Airport (South Korea)

“World’s Best Airport Security Screening”

  1. Tokyo Narita Airport (Japan)

”World’s Best Airport Immigration”

  1. Munich Airport (Germany)
  2. Zurich Airport (Switzerland)
  3. Heathrow Airport (England)
  4. Kansai International Airport (Japan)
  5. Hong Kong International Airport (Hong Kong)
  6. Centrair Nagoya Airport (Japan)

”World’s Best Regional Airport”

As above, 4 of Japan’s airports ranked top 11.

Tokyo Haneda Airport, Kansai International Airport, and Centrair Nagoya Airport also won the “COVID-19 Airport Excellence Awards,” which customers rated airport COVID-19 standards such as information signage, visibility and availability of hand sanitizers, social distancing, etc.

The airport is the world’s gateway.  What you see, hear, and feel at the airport more or less alters your first impression of the country.  As a Japanese citizen, these results are something to be proud of, though the accuracy is questionable since less people are using the airport under the COVID-19 pandemic compared to previous years.

Unfortunately, foreign visitors are still not allowed to enter Japan unless “special exceptional circumstances” are acknowledged.

I hope more people will visit Japan after the border enforcement measures are lifted.
