The Beginning to a Bright New Year

This is Stephanie of IMS.

In a little under three short weeks, celebrations around the world will mark the end to 2015, and the start to a brand new year. Three weeks is all that’s left to a whirlwind of a year, and I still have trouble believing it. This marked for me my first, full-calendar year of living in Tokyo, marked by the highlights of my parents coming to visit (an astounding six months earlier) and a move to a new part of the city (nearly two months ago!).

Next week I will be traveling to Narita to board a plane back to the U.S. for the holidays, where I’ll get to see my family once more—including my two adorable dogs. Last Christmas we spent a total of four days on the road driving to and from Texas to visit my mom’s side of the family. This year marks a distinct lack of driving, for which I’m grateful! I’ll be able to visit local friends of my own, as well as take the time to actually relax in one spot for a few days.

Unfortunately I’ll be spending my New Year’s Day in several airports and a handful of planes, but I plan to make the best of my time at home. Sometimes it’s hard being so far from family for most of the year, but thanks to Skype and planes and holiday gatherings, the planet doesn’t seem so large, after all.
